What is SaaS?

SaaS, or software as a service, is software you use over the internet and pay for as a subscription instead of buying and installing it.

The company runs the software on its own servers and you sign in from a browser. You get updates automatically, your data lives in your account, and you usually pay monthly or yearly.

Most SaaS products are web apps. Many start with a free plan, which is called freemium, so people can try them before paying.
